Your favorite producers´ favorite producer, RUN VIE guest 2010 and on top one of my absolute favs if it comes to musicmaking, Dimlite, is finally releasing his new 6Tracker on Now Again / Stones Throw beginning of 2010.

“Summerlings + snugglers…finally some news. The damned, much talked about (by me) 3rd album Prismic Valuta Rising, announced earlier this year, is definitely not coming out as an album. BUT: 6 tunes of it made it on the next Dimlite release on my new home. Tangerine cheesecake. The record’s called Prismic Tops, it will be coming out on Now Again Records (Stones Throw) by the beginning of 2010: Sun-sized Twinkles will be on it, Elbow Flood.. – “Mind you”, these tunes are from the last 2 years, so as of NOW, I’m sitting working on a NEW, ALBUM.. tangerine.. cheese.. cake. Once it’s finished, it will – I can’t keep it a secret – redefine mankind’s perception of the whole universe tangerine cheesecake. Dim”

Die CD stirbt lang vorm Vinyl pflege ich immer zu sagen - und das wird sie auch und tut sie auch immermehr. Die  weltweiten Vinylverkäufe sind zwar proportional ganz und gar nicht mit derer von Mp3 & CD vergleichbar , trotzdem geht´s seit ein paar Jahren wieder langsam, aber dennoch konstant bergauf.

“The resurgent vinyl market isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. In fact, recent figures released by Nielsen SoundScan indicate that overall U.S. vinyl sales will once again set a benchmark in 2009, with sales up 50% through the first five months of the year.”

“SoundScan predicts vinyl sales will reach 2.8 million units in 2009, up from 1.9 million in 2008, a record since SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991. Already in 2009, vinyl sales have topped 1 million. At this point last year, vinyl sales stood at 701,000 copies. To be fair, the number is still tiny compared to overall album sales - Vinyl, SoundScan points out, accounts for less than 1% of overall album sales. “

Lustigerweise ist Rock auf Vinyl noch immer das Genre schlechthin, gefolgt von Hip Hop und House / Dancemusic würd ich mal sagen. Interessant ist dabei, dass weit mehr HipHop DJs mit Traktor & Serato spielen, als zum Beispiel im klassischen House & Techno. Elektro, Drum&Bass & Co sind hingegen wieder eher auf der Harddisk als in der Plattentasche zuhause. 7inches sind wieder (waren sie ja eigentlich eh immer) furchtbar trendy, liebevoll gestaltete Collectors Items und Recordboxes, und und und. Vinyl is here to stay - auch wenn´s schwer,  unpraktisch und sauteuer ist bzw zu produzieren eigentlich reine Liebhaberei ist.

Apropos Liebhaberei - verkaufen tut sich´s leider nicht mehr so wie vor 10, 20 Jahren. Einige Vertriebe in Deutschland, u.a. Neuton oder der Indieriese EFA sind in den letzten Jahren krachen gegangen, in den Staaten haben mehr als 3000 Indie Stores ihre Pforten geschlossen. Vertriebe werden sich wohl oder übel genau so überlegen müssen, wie sie sich umstrukturieren, wie sich auch das Major Bizness in Sachen Online Musik langsam was überlegen sollte.  Geschweigedenn in Sachen Copyright, Filesharing oder das gar unmöglich zu bewältigen erscheinende Thema Tantiemen im Netz.  Aber das is something completely different. Spezialisierte und kleine Vertriebe / Shops scheinen es da schon “leichter zu haben”.

Well, wir werden sehen, wie sich alles entwickelt. Der beinahe totgesagte Technics ist es doch noch nicht ganz und Vinyl Gadgets aller Art sowie Usb Turntables erfreuen sich weltweit eines feinen Retro Trends; Übrigens: Vinylfreunden sei neben San Francisco (wo ich noch nicht war) Tokyo (wo ich grad war) recht herzlich empfohlen; die Second Hand Stores mit mehreren Stockwerken sind Himmel und Hölle für einen Plattennarr.

usb plattenspieler is ja ganz nett, aber wer toys mag wie zb das oder das … kann auch vielleicht damit was anfangen, wobei sich´s vielleicht eher als geschenk für die dame des hauses oder starwars nerds eignet…

  
die etwas anderen my little pony figuren, händisch umgestaltet nach vorlage von zb star wars und anderer diverser comics;  gebastelt und verkauft von der finnischen kunststudentin mari kasurinen.
kostenpunkt: ~ 330€ das stück, also fast schon abverkaufspreis;)

one of the labels, that extensively influenced me, turned 20. Warp Records, founded in 1989 by Steve Beckett & Rob Mitchell in Sheffield, is one of the biggest, finest and trendsetting indie labels ever since.

With LFO they had their first chart entries in the early nineties;  with Nightmares on Wax´ “Smokers Delight” in 1995, one of the first ultimate achievements in downbeat; besides the influental greatness of artists like Aphex Twin, Autechre or Squarepusher, they released music of Luke Vilbert, Two Lone Swordsman, Prefuse 73, Plaid and loads of others…
lately they´ve been breaking down the hiphop frontiers (besides prefuse and anti pop consortium) with Flying Lotus.

20 years of extraordinary and complex music is worthy to release a best of album: the warp guys are releasing Warp20 on the 25th of Sept: 10 best of tracks selected by the warp originators and 10 online chosen tracks by the warp community. sounds lovely! i´ll grab something to eat and listen to LFO by LFO, Hard Normal Daddy and some richard d. james muzik!
